beginner workshop posture clinic 1 tips

Here are some tips and reminders from our posture clinic on Sunday!
  • Asana means to be seated comfortably
  • Theory of asana is to be stable/still (no trembling or wobbling) and in a state of ease  (nothing hurts)
  • Practice of asana requires prayatna saitilya or relaxed effort (of life) which is relaxed breathing, and in our yoga system/lineage we utilize ujjayi or victorious breath
  • Intention + Action = Position
  • padabandha or foot lock: 4 corners plus 6th toe
  • hastabandha or hand lock: base of each finger down and equal weight on inner and outer wrist. base of index and thumb down, lift center of palm like suction cup
  • feet parallel hips distance or big toes touching, heels slightly apart
  • toes lifting so not leaning forward. do not grip toes.
  • make sure not spilling guts, tilt pelvic bowl
  • shoulders back and down
  • in downdog, palms flat, external rotation in upper arm, neck relaxed, top of head down, shoulders away from ears, shoulder blades down back and wrap around ribs, navel towards spine, hips lifting, legs straight, internal rotation in upper legs, outer edges of feet parallel with outer edges of mat, front of legs lifting, toes up, heels down.
  • chaturanga dandasana 4 limb staff pose, look forward, shoulders back, elbows alongside ribs, legs straight, elbows bent, hovering a few inches off ground, breathe.
  • we will continue with the second part posture clinic on march 3 and you don't have to have attended the first one to do the second one but those who attended the first one will build on what we learned. registration is open now and will likely fill up. reserve your spots today!
